ABOUT CHANNEL 5
Great Belize Productions Ltd. began operations as a small
video production facility in 1982, less than one year after
the introduction of television to Belize. With a staff never
numbering more than five people, it specialized in producing
commercials, documentaries and corporate promotions for
airing on the rapidly proliferating number of "pirate
" stations. In 1991 GBP was granted a broadcasting
license by the government and became the nation's first
television station with its own production capability.
Since that time, broadcasting on Channel 5 from Belize City
and repeating on different frequencies throughout the country,
Great Belize Television has become Belize's leading television
station and foremost provider of local and regional programming.
Operating with a staff of 20, the station has gained an
international reputation for producing high quality work
from very limited resources.
